This probably seems off-topic, but really, it’s not: We just posted some nice studio shots of our replica of the new U.S.S. Enterprise from J.J. Abrams’ reboot of Star Trek, complete with videos of the lighting effects. It’s been a while since we’ve done a FX Friday here at the Ship Works. We took a little breather, but with the shuttle paint master underway, figured it was time we return to exploring FX’s vast back catalog and remember why we selected them to do Serenity.

Let’s continue our march through the many models of Enterprise with the second most-recognizable variant to date: The Enterprise D.

If you’ve spent much time on the Ship Works, you might think we have it in for Star Trek. But nothing could be further from the truth. It’s true that the later entries in that wildly successful franchise were, shall we say, less than compelling. But many of the shows to bear the Star Trek moniker were pretty darned good; some were even ground-breaking.
