Serenity, Atlas, Creation Con, Jayne and Other Updates

Serenity has returned to her berth after greeting Browncoats across the U.S. So much has happened over the last six weeks. She’s been mobbed by fans and paid homage to by her costars (see Nathan pic in previous post). She’s been at San Diego ComicCon where over a 100,000 peeps got to come by and check her out. Barely a month later, Serenity flew to Atlanta and was back on display for the crowds at Dragon*Con, a slightly (and I do mean slightly) smaller crowd that more than made up for that fact with their enthusiasm.

The waiting list for Serenity now exceeds 1,400 and that’s just *our* direct waiting list. It doesn’t include reseller partners like Sideshow Collectibles. As those of you on the waiting list already know (and if you aren’t on the list and have any interest in Serenity at all, I strongly encourage to sign up at concierge@quantummechanix.com), we have doubled the edition size to 1,000 to accommodate the unprecedented interest in our girl. We know not everyone who wants Serenity is going to be able to get in on this edition. But when we were looking at disappointing more than half of our direct customers alone, well, clearly, something had to be done.

Serenity gets mobbed: The line of folks jockeying to see Serenity up close doesn’t shorten for four days at Dragon*Con. The sight of our girl brings tears to the eyes of several Browncoats and at least one young lady almost faints when she learns that this is the very same ship Nathan kissed.

We’ve also decided to open preordering for folks on the waiting list first, before the general public. Once we’ve given waiting list folks a chance, we’ll open things up to the rest of the world, if there are any left, that is. (Want that waiting list e-mail address again?)

What Serenity Means to You

In other Serenity-related news, as of midnight last night, the “What Serenity Means to You” contest is now closed. We got quite a few entries, every single one heartfelt and compelling in it’s own way. The entries have been forwarded to the judges, and as soon as they weigh in we’ll announce the winner of that shiny Inara’s Shuttle diorama.

Atlas of The Verse

Ben Mund, the designer on the Atlas of The Verse, is in the home stretch now. Just a couple finishing touches and we will be moving on to final studio approval. Assuming all goes well, we’re looking to have these on sale in time for the Creation Entertainment Serenity convention in Los Angeles this November (see next item).

Creation Salute to Serenity and Firefly!

Those who made it out to the Creation Entertainment Salute to Serenity & Firefly last year will remember what an awesomely good time it was. We had such a good time, QMx is sponsoring the show again this year in it’s new location at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott, November 21-22, 2009.

If you can make it, we highly recommend it. In addition to QMx’s biggest show booth of the year (over 30 feet of shiny goodness), we will have the QMx conference track which is always full of awesome. Our confirmed guests include Jane Espenson and Shawna Trpcic, who will both be speaking and doing signings at the QMx booth. You can also expect other guests and more than a few surprises (remember how we introduced Serenity last year at this show?), so we really hope you can join us!

The Maquette They Called Jayne – Almost Sold Out

Yes, it’s true: The preorder allocation for the latest Little Damn Hero – Jayne Cobb – sold out about a week ago. But never fear, you haven’t missed out completely. On Monday, September 21 at 12pm PDT, we will reopen ordering on the last 100 Jaynes left in the world. These will be in stock and ready to ship, so don’t wait and don’t hesitate!

CREATION!!!! Cannot wait…last year was phenomenal (it was my first con) The Atlas and Jane and Shawna and a surprise announcement? Not to mention meeting all the hardworking Qmx folk again! WHY ISN”T IT NEXT WEEK??

I was one of those tear-jerked people at SDCC. I was pretty cool, though, and I don’t think anyone noticed! ^.^

  4. Jim in St. Louis says:

The first picture looks great full sized. Wouldn’t that Plexiglas case be a great accessory to be able to buy??? Hey, that first pic looks like there is an autograph on the display base. Is that Nathan’s? That would sure add to the value of 0001.

    Thanks for the update.

And there’s our ship again, looking great as usual…. need price, need price, need price.

One assumes it doesn’t come with the Plexiglass case, since that would just make the package too huge and cost too much for overseas shipping. Can always source something like that locally.

  6. Andy says:

Sweet can’t wait to get my Jayne, hope the rest of the crew are made soon. River next please. Once the crew is done could we have Saffon too : )
I really hope I can afford Serenity….I need her soooo much

    My Dad’s birthday.

    Sept 17th.
Exactly 25 years ago I started work where I am now. Shifted jobs a few times but the same address, same company.

    Sept 17th.
Email notification that Jayne has been shipped.

    What a day:)
Dear Diary: Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy. Today we got kidnapped by hill folk, never to be seen again. It was the best day ever.

  8. john vaughan says:

You guys wouldn’t want to give up the goods on that case now would you? Like where a guy could get one. She still looks so beautiful, can’t wait. Oh, and if I haven’t sead it before, THANKS. Let the race begin.

  9. john vaughan says:

That’s “said” where in the hell did I learn how to spell?

  10. Boochydog says:

soon, very soon now. she will be mine…

  11. Stephen Morton says:

    @Anthony:
Saw the BDR at Dragon*Con and the shipping box is this wooden beast:

So I think the plexiglas case will be included. 8-)

  12. Tech Sergeant says:

It’s beyond anxious anticipation now. It was sort of exilarating at first, then it bacame impatient anticipation, and now it’s just plain worry. We are well beyond the date/time we were supposed to have made deposits and orders. I’m getting so bad that I’m stressing that the email announcement has been missed for some unforseen reason….how much longer!!??

The Jayne Maquette is cute, however, I’m just sticking steadfast to my light effect equipped Serenity model and won’t be deterred. I just hope there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and this doesn’t drag into the holiday season.

  13. Anthony says:

    @Stephen
Thanks for that, that is indeed a pretty big wooden box, tho I still get a feeling it wouldn’t be big enough for the plexiglas cover, but I maybe wrong.
