Atlas of The Verse

As we teased here last week, having done all the hard work getting down on paper the framework of The Verse, there was simply no way we were going to stop there.

It’s all well and good knowing where Sihnon is and roughly how far it would be from there to, say, Hera. But what we really want to know is, what exactly is on Hera? Or Sihnon? Or Persephone? I don’t want to sail the Black like a professional just to end up like some gorram tourist when I finally arrive on Higgin’s Moon, do I? I need the info and I need it now.

Thus we present – The Atlas of The Verse. Developed in parallel with The Map of Verse, the Atlas focuses on details – planet sizes, populations, satellites, exports, imports, cities, docks and other points of interest. All the things a captain and Trader’s Guild member in good standing would want to have at his or her finger tips as he or she sails between worlds.

Mysterious Sihnon, the seat of Chinese culture in The Verse.

The first volume of the Atlas focuses on the New Canaan Trade Route, the most profitable route in The Verse for mid-bulk transports. The route traverses: Londinium, Osiris, Sihnon, Beaumonde, Silverhold, New Canaan, Harvest, Shadow, Boros, Shadow, Hera and Ariel. Each stop on the route will include it’s own planetary atlas plus important details on trade and restrictions, some local “color” and advertising inserts.

Wish you had some grenades? Pick some up on Silverhold where they’re not too particular who they sell them to. (I mean, they sold some to Jayne, after all.)

We even have an introduction written by one of the luminaries of the Serenity Verse, although who that is exactly will be staying a surprise – for now. The Atlas of The Verse will be produced in the same format as our best-selling Serenity Blueprints Reference Pack. Price and release date are still to be determined.

The Atlas of the Verse has been in development for well over a year now, headed up by Ben Mund, better known as “Whitefall”, creator of such insanely detailed and fabulous artifacts as the Serenity Valley Map and the Serenity Ship Papers.

One of the few remaining maps documenting troop movements during the Battle of Serenity Valley.

Name The Crappy Town Where Your a Hero. To help kick things off right with The Atlas of The Verse and to help raise money for Equality Now, QMx has teamed up with the Austin Browncoats to auction off 50 currently unnamed towns on the planetary atlases. That’s right – now you can actually name that crappy town where you’re a hero, with all the proceeds going to Equality Now as part of Can’t Stop The Serenity.

We’ll post all the details, including auction dates, as soon as they’re available.

Atoll Plaza, the docking area in one of Beaumonde’s major cities.

  3. admin says:

You guys should hop on over to Silverhold, then
    ;-)

  4. Sean Kennedy says:

Hey Andy! The atlas is looking great.

  5. Donnovan says:

Can you share how many editions the set will likely entail, or is that still being worked out?

This is looking just amazing. I can’t wait to see this thing hit the store.

  6. admin says:

Thanks, Donnovan! Well, we’re starting off with the first trade route and we’re covering most of the planets Browncoats care about. If there’s a lot of interest, Ben has already committed to doing other trade routes until, we hope, we cover all the planets on the map :-)

Each route would be released as a separate reference pack, assuming we’re lucky enough to get to do them all.

  7. Atom says:

Wow, above an beyond. Here I thought that the Firefly verse would be dieing down, but to the opposite it looks like you guys are expanding it big time! I know the quality will be spot on, and those teasers look great. Thanks for the updates!

  8. admin says:

Thanks, Atom. Firefly will only die if we (all of us Browncoats) let it!

  9. jonesy says:

Looks Shiny!! Looking forward to seeing more updates. Keep up the great work!

  10. Philippa says:

    Oh, SWEET. That’s a sale!

  11. Akin says:

Looks awesome, Andy! Been waiting for this for a while now… any idea on a release date?

  12. admin says:

Thanks, Scott! And that’s an excellent question. It’s mostly done at this point. Hope to submit the final to Universal for review within the next few weeks. It’s a lot of content, but hopefully we’ll have approval sometime in May in which case, um, June?

  13. Jim in St. Louis says:

Impressive stuff indeed Andy! We really need a nice portfolio to keep all this Verse related material in.

  14. john vaughan says:

You guys are great. the verse will never die, as long as there is breath in my body it will live on, well for my household anyway. So when can we bid on those crappy towns?

  15. Great news. Can I pre-order now? How about now? Now?

I hope there are some rules for name entries. I’d hate to see someone buy a name for their town and call it “John Smallberryville”, “PooTown”, or something worse…

  16. admin says:

Rest assured, Anthony, there are rules. Pretty strict ones. And the studio will need to approve the final list.

So, no PooTown. And Pi Giu is taken…
    ;-)

  17. koeran says:

Wow. You know, you guys are very good at taking my money. I don’t mind though, you give me some gorram shiny stuff in return!

  18. William Pace says:

Ever since learning of this one a lifetime ago I’ve been anticipating its release. Now, June seems too far away.

  19. Simon Bray says:

What will the retail price be and will the product be available in the UK?

  20. admin says:

Hi Simon – price hasn’t been set yet but it will most definitely be available in the U.K.

  21. Philip keys says:

u guys should make a hardcover book with info on all the planets (although i dont know how big that would be) also you should make more replicas of some of the weapons like jayne’s pistol or zoe’s rifle.

  22. Philip keys says:

also u guys gotta make some grenades

  23. Philip keys says:

and rivers stylys from the school scene could be a cool little thing to have for your phone ect also it seems that it wouldent cost that much to make because the actual prop is just a piece of wood and some perspex.

  24. Matt says:

Is there any way I can be involved in working on this? I’ve got a pretty strong education in economics and urban/land use planning, and no likely job come graduation. This’d be a great way to pass the time.

  25. Mary McKay-Eaton says:

Please tell me when this is getting released. I’d like a copy, pretty please.

  26. Cheryl L says:

I won one of the naming rights for the ‘name the crappy town where you’re a hero’, so I’m just wondering when this is going to be published and where it will be available! Anxious to get my hands on a copy, thanks.

  27. Matthew Kayan says:
