At QMx we’re constantly on the lookout for new talent, new ideas, new ways to delight our fellow Browncoats. As part of that, we regularly trawl the portfolios of thousands of designers, looking for those with a fresh approach and a deep love of Firefly and Serenity that can ultimately translate into shiny stuff.

Once in a very, very rare while, we find someone whose work so totally blows us away, we can barely type the e-mail fast enough to get in contact with them. In the past three years I can count the number of times that’s happened on one hand, and still have enough fingers left to dial the phone. Of course, when lightening does strike, it delivers to us new talents like Adam Levermore-Rich and Ben Mund. So, as rare as it is, we know it’s always worth the wait.

Recently we came across just such an awesome talent in one Kristele Pelland, who creates some of the most memorable animated characters we’ve seen in a long time. And she loves Firefly and Serenity.

So, of course, first thing we asked her to do was immortalize the Big Damn Heroes in her own unique style. The result of that request you can see below – the first in what we hope will be a series of poster sets we’re calling “Serenity Scenes”. The first poster set will retail for $24.95 and include the three 11×14-inch prints picture here. It will be available for the first time at the Creation Serenity show Nov. 22-23 and then on the QMx website after that.

As always, we’ve come to you Core-Techs first because you always have insightful feedback for us. So, what do you think?

P.S. This is not the “big” announcement. Soon, very soon ;-)

Just plain awesome, reminds me of the CLERKS animated cartoon or the better Clone Wars cartoon (the one a few years ago).

HA! Those are AWESOME! I love the first three scenes Kristéle (QMx) selected. She really captured the spirit and personalities of our BDH’s. These are definitely MUST HAVES!

I just had visions of an animated series.

Oh and by the way and a little OT, someone there at QMx is really coming up with some great looking graphics. I love the “keep flyin” and “the verse” logos.

shiny, very shiny. anyone for a full length animated film? (hint, hint) you know,to expand the verse and all. keep flying

That looks great, really awesome. I always admire people that draw cartoons, it takes talent and I can never do it myself.

An animated film wouldn’t be too bad–it’d be cheap, since there would be no sets at all or filming, basically just the artists and the actors for the voice acting. It would be acceptable–as long as they keep it mature and not make it kiddy.

I’ve seen her work before, on deviantart.com. Thumbs up! I gotta say, though, I don’t have near enough wall space for all these fine posters you are producing! Have you thought about making some type of custom Firefly/Serenity portfolio book that we could store these in? Also, what about doing a set (or sets) of trading cards using this artwork or something?

What a great idea! It would be a neat and organized way to keep all of our Serenity stuff in one place and out in the open. Kinda like a coffee table book.

  8. Shelley Says:

Can we get them in time for Xmas? I have an 11 yr old boy who would be beside himself for the first one.

  9. admin Says:

Hi Shelley – Absolutely! They’ll be on sale at the Creation convention first, but should be available through the website about a week later.

I have a proof of “grenades” on the wall in my office (right behind the computer). It never fails to elicit a smile. So, yes, the perfect gift for all us kids! ;-)

Keelhauler – part of the reason behind moving to a smaller poster size (where the subject matter will accommodate it) was specifically so people can put these in a portfolio. I think we will come up with one ourselves, once we get through Creation, just because it’s such a good idea.

As for trading cards – maybe once there’s a body of material together, we could do that. I don’t want to overwhelm Kristéle, but I’d be thrilled to publish as many of these as she has the time and energy to create. They’re just *so* much fun!

An animated film would be awesome. Someone did a flash animation of part of the first set of comics shortly after those came out. It was something a fan did, nothing official, but it came out nice.

The posters are nice and sharp looking. Collect 30 posters or collect one detailed Serenity type flying vessel. Tough call:)

  12. jonesy Says:

Are you planning to use any more of her work?

  13. admin Says:

We’d like to, very much. But I suppose that depends on if you folks want us to. Do you like it?

  14. keelhauler Says:

so…. it’s 11/25/08 and the QMx site still says these are out of stock. I never even got a chance to order. What’s up?

Also, when is the Cerberus poster going on sale? It was supposed to be available today.

  15. keelhauler Says:

ok. now the site says they are both expected 12/05/08.
