Here at the Firefly Ship Works (FFSW) our goal is to create reliable, flexible and affordable transport for you and yours, as you endeavor to reach vistas unseen and wilderness yet to be tamed. As such, we have put together this Cortex Wave Server (CWS) to keep you informed of our efforts to create the ‘Verse’s first and only screen-accurate Firefly Series 3, the Serenity Artisan Replica.
This CWS has the interact flag set to “on”, so feel free to post your questions and comments as you see fit. Just remember, we’re here to talk about the development of the Serenity Replica; if you want to know about price and availability, we’d respectfully suggest you sign up for the QMx Insider newsletter, where such information will be available first. Or contact the fine folks at Quantum Mechanix, who will be handling fulfillment when our work here is complete (which we hope will be well before 2459!)
The plan is this: Post updates on a regular (hopefully weekly) basis until Serenity is complete. Don’t assume just because we’re just starting this site now, we’re just starting development. We started research on this project two and half years ago and have been actively developing this replica for quite some time. The reason this site is going live now is we’ve finally sighted light at the end of tunnel and determined – to the best of our abilities – it’s not an oncoming GravLev train.
If you’d like to have FFSW updates bounced directly to your Cortex router, just add this URL to your news reader: http://www.fireflyshipworks.com/?feed=rss2. Or you can just click on the shiny RSS icon at the top of your screen.
But enough talk – let’s get started. The Rim is waiting!

Can you tip us off to an approximate size? I’m hoping it is at least 15 inches long.
Will You make enough to satisfy the Demand? I mean, I want one or two.
Will the final material be plastic, resin, metal or something else?
Hi Steve –
Thanks for the note. I answered the scale issue at some length here, but the short version is it’ll be 18 inches long (1/180 scale).
As for how many we’re going to make – we haven’t set the edition size yet. It *will* be a limited edition replica, as all our Artisan replicas are. Also, as an Artisan replica it will be: a hand cast kit, hand wired, assembled and painted. We’ve determined this is the best way to ensure each replica is as shiny as possible. There are just too many important details that can get lost if the person doing the paint job or casting isn’t a professional model maker intimately familiar with Serenity. We’re lucky enough to be working with The FX Company who will assemble and paint each replica. The folks at FX are top-notch; if you want to see their latest work be sure to check out the new Indiana Jones film – they worked on a bunch of the model sets.
These will cast in high-quality resin. Some of the more detailed components will be photo-etched.
Hope that answers your questions!
Shiny! Count me as in as an in thing which has got just that little bit further in… I look forward to the finished thing greatly!
Any chance we will be able to get Firefly Shipworks t-shirts?
T-shirts…hmmm… with just the logo? Or did you have something else in mind?
Wow, I’m loving this website. I can’t wait to get my hands on a finished replica. Now I’m happy I held onto that coupon that will give me $25-50 off on my purchase.
Thanks for the info. The only thing I have to worry about now is whether I’ll get my order in before they sell out.
The fact they’ll come assembled and painted doesn’t bother me at all. I love building and painting, but I have to admit my skills aren’t up to the pro level. Having a “perfect” firefly will be a joy.
Hope it costs less than my big TV….
Steve
If you haven’t already done so, go to the QMx site and register for the Insider Newsletter. That way you will be among the first to get information about the Serenity Replica and all their other products.

Thanks! And thanks to you, too, Jim!
SHINY! I was told to say Mal sent me then The Signal. I hope the engine spins and the lights flash with out it behing on a stand or something like it, that way I can put it up on my celing will all my other ships. I think it would be shiny if we could also see vidoes of the ship in works as it being built, with still photos. Maybe you have that kind of stuff in the insider watch I love ready. Can’t wate to see and get this shiny new idem!
Hey there Tony – welcome to the Ship Works! Serenity will include lighting effects for sure – but we’ll talk more about that when we get to the lighting integration stage of the project. Rest assured, we’ll be publishing lots stills and video as we go!
BTW, it’s so cool you got here because of that little tease in the Serenity: Better Days comic. I think you’re the first person to find their way here because of the ad (everyone – feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on that count). So, congrats!
